The Associated Press reports that Jeanne-Claude, the wife and artistic collaborator with Christo of such installation works as New York City's "The Gates," died Wednesday night.
The couple appeared in Tulsa earlier this year, when the Circle Cinema showed the documentary film about "The Gates." It was the first time the couple had visited Tulsa.
Some years earlier, the couple contributed a piece to the Tulsa Artists' Coalition's annual "5 by 5" show.
According to the Associated Press story, a statement from the family said that "Christo was deeply saddened by his wife's death but was 'committed to honor the promise they made to each other many years ago: that the art of Christo and Jeanne-Claude would continue.'"
One of those projects is "Over the River," in which portions of the Arkansas River in Colorado will be spanned by miles of specially woven fabric.
