Letter to the editor: H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E

By Terry Veith, Tulsa - 11/7/2009

Members of Congress and the Senate are absolute hypocrites! Particularly the Democratic representatives and senators who are in control. They have a health care insurance program the ordinary citizen could only dream about: an in-house physician, no appointments needed, no need to go to his office, access to two major hospital facilities with VIP treatment, all with less cost that an average U.S. family. And they can continue the same perks when they are defeated in an election! Guess what? They voted against being required to join a "public option health insurance program" should one pass! How many ways can you spell hypocrite?

This letter was published exclusively online.

The Tulsa World publishes as many letters as possible within its standards and space limitations. The newspaper receives many more letters than it can publish. To help accommodate that surplus some letters are published online only. Letters that can't be edited below the 250-word limit on printed letters or that are written by an author who has published a letter in the past 30 days are often used online only. The newspaper also emphasizes local topics in printed letters. Letters addressing national or international events are often used online.

Terry: You make some good points, but your point that it is particularly the Democrats who are the hypocrites doesn't make sense. The majority of the Democrats in Congress want a public option and universal coverage. It is the Republican Party that is providing the vast majority of votes against health care reform. It has been this way since Harry Truman included national health insurance in his Fair Deal. It was mostly Democrats who voted for Medicare and it was mostly Republicans who voted against it.

droopy: Will you support me in urging that everyone in America be covered by Medicare, including the elected officials of government?

Goodness Terry, don't hold back. If you have something to say, just say it. I agree, any plan to pass congress should apply to all Rep. and Senators, also all government employees.

True2form--Agreed: this writer is so true to form. Much unformed anger out there--where were you, terry veith, for the past eight years?

Terry: they opted to keep their own insurance plan much like every one of us will have the opportunity to do!!!

The House and Senate have Cadillac Insurance and all the perks the writer of this article speaks of. If they want to force their ideas on health insurance they should be forced to have the same thing they are trying to make us take.
