Feed The Children board fires founder Larry Jones

By NOLAN CLAY NewsOK.com - 11/7/2009

Feed The Children President Larry Jones was fired Friday from the charity he founded 30 years ago. He plans to sue to try to get his job back.

The charity’s board of directors voted to terminate Jones’ employment "effective immediately.” The directors did not give a reason. The charity paid Jones $230,323 a year, records show.

"There’s going to be thousands of children go hungry this Christmas because of what they did,” Jones, 69, told The Oklahoman.

The firing came after Jones admitted to the charity’s investigator and to police that he authorized the installation of hidden microphones in three executives’ offices last April. "I did nothing wrong there. … I knew what the law was… They used wiretapping as the excuse,” Jones said Friday.

Good riddance. I never gave any money to his organization, as I figured it was crooked and the majority of the donations were going in his and other top brass's pockets. Charity begins at home, my family, my relatives, my friends, my neighbors, my city, my state, United States in that order. Then, if money is left over, help other countries. God helps those, who help themselves.

Finally! I've known for years he was a crook, and he is getting what he deserved. It's a crime that it took so long to fire him.

He does, issues like embelzellment, no indictments because of the way the charity is structured, a succession of brutal power plays against people he doesn't like, microphone planting, surveillance of friends. This should have occurred long ago.

I used to give to Feed the Children and I did it because if one person got food then it was worth it.It is sickening to hear of Larry Jones salary. That is highway robbery!!! He gets by with it? I wonder what the other employees get payed.

I only saw Larry Jones one time and that was several years ago on an airplane. He was politely seated in a large First Class suite where he received special treatment behind a partition that separated him from the rest of us working folks. I remember wondering how much his ticket must have cost. I'm sure that it would have fed several hundred hungary children. It just didn't seem right that someone who lived off of other people's charity, should be spending that kind of money for his own personal luxury.

The Jones family looks to be bankin' up some b-a-d kharma. Put your pettiness aside. Think of the children.

What kind of weird Christians live in Inola? You say you're a Christian yourself but you tell KarenD that if she went hungry as a child it was HER OWN FAULT?? Must be some other Christ 'cause it doesn't sound anything like the one I know.

why is it that right wing Christians are always paranoid?

SS_Hippy, Tulsa (11/7/2009 5:47:51 PM)
My in-laws always gave money to organizations and got letters and pictures from the children they were helping. to think someone might be taking money they sent from the heart, and keeping it from needy children...well hell is about right for those greedy sob's.

How can a founder of a charity be fired? How come their were never any embezzlement charges filed? I sounds like ACORN and Radke.

I saw a program not to long ago that said street panhandlers can make 100.00 or more per day. Why wouldn't they do that instead of getting a job? It pays more than most people make each day and it's tax free. It's not just homeless people.

Can you really get fired from a charity you founded? This guy must have some real ISSUES.

Thunder196, Tulsa (11/7/2009 8:16:51 AM)
Their tax forms are on the Internet. If you look at how much is brought in, as to the proportion Jones and his wife was paid, his salary was low. . It is nothing but a greedy power struggle pure and simple. They want a lot more of the pie.

Jones is a scumbag. Good riddance. This is happening about 10 years too late.

Arbythree, Tulsa (11/9/2009 1:23:06 PM)
Maybe more children will be fed since he will not be getting his quarter of a million dollar salary. Just a thought, as he mentioned that without him so many children will not be fed.

KarenD, (11/6/2009 5:05:49 PM)
LARRY......Shut up and take this like a man. We gave to Feed the Children for years until we found out how you have been running the place. We got sick of your MULTIPLE mailings every month. Did you think that little address labels would make us pay more to you? You leave and we will start giving again. We believe in tithes and offerings over and above 10% and none has been going to Feed the Children. If you really mean what you have said in the past about feeding children, just leave.

KarenD, (11/6/2009 5:06:43 PM)
If my boss had put micrphones in my office, I would be suing him right now!!!!! Deception is nothing like Jesus.

Casual Reader...I do know what hunger is as I went without food for as many as three days when I was growing up in Oklahoma. However, when we first started giving to Feed the Children they listed as their administrative costs a very low amount. They advertised that the staff were primarily volunteers and that the truck drivers were volunteers. Somehow along the way, it became a money-making venture for the Jones family. From what I understand, their daughter actually owns the trucking company that transports the food and the drivers are not volunteers. They also bought a "home" in California that Larry Jones said was for an office, but the daughter lives there. Explain that to me.
