Letter to the editor: 'Wonderful city'

By Molly Freeman, Tulsa - 11/5/2009

I am fortunate enough to live in a beautiful apartment on the west bank of the Arkansas River. Part of the beauty of living here is the astonishing up-close view I have of downtown Tulsa.

Amazingly enough, this view was improved a few nights ago when I realized that I could see the Mayo Hotel sign, shining brightly in red and adding a nice touch to the already jewel-like quality of this nighttime vista.

I was once again reminded of what a wonderful city Tulsa is and how fortunate we all are to live here. The revitalization of the downtown area is especially valuable to someone like me who grew up during an era when downtown was the place to go for shopping and fun.

I hope every citizen not only will support all the downtown additions to Tulsa's lifestyle, but also will take a little trip to the west bank for a nighttime viewing of our lovely city. I guarantee you, it will be worth your while.

Excellent letter, Ms. Freeman! From my house I can see the bright red 'MAYO' sign beaming over our city. I stand at any of my east windows and enjoy the view of downtown. Seeing the MAYO sign once again shinning bright has indeed been a comforting sight. I'm thankful that someone had enough belief and money to invest in saving this monumental building. You could not drag me out to another part of the city to live. No thank you. I love my downtown, and Tulsa has been improving as a livable city over the past few years.

I am willing to bet Molly lives at Westport apartments. It is a nice complex with a great view of downtown. I miss living there.

Ms. Freeman: Good letter! I've been here since 1962 and have always lived close to Downtown. Never had the urge to take off for Owasso, Broken Arrow, Jenks or any of the other remote outposts! They are too costly for one thing!! Everyone to his own 'cup of tea.'
