Letter to the editor: Who knew?

By John Sames, Tulsa - 11/4/2009

As a University of Oklahoma fan I don't often support the Oklahoma State University Cowboys; however, the Dez Bryant suspension is one of the most absurd decisions the NCAA has ever made.

Who are these pompous blowhards who sit on their unelected thrones and determine such punishments that don't fit the crime? How is it that coaches in the college ranks make huge sums of money and do all sorts of unscrupulous things and are ignored by the NCAA? How can a "student athlete" be denied a year of eligibility for not breaking any NCAA rules while major college football programs (uh hum, USC) blatantly break the rules and go unpunished? Why? Because it's all about the good old boys and big money.

In 1987 Brian Bosworth wore a T-shirt to the Orange Bowl that read, "National Communists Against Athletes." Bosworth was chastised for the move. Bosworth was a hell of a college football player; who knew he was such an astute observer of the NCAA's character.

As an former Sooner Athlete, I for one was a MONSTER OSU fan last Saturday. We athletes get sick and tired of the homerism of Sooner fans that didn't even go to the school! But I will agree, there is nothing as bad as an OSU fan with a football team that is winning. OU fans are the worst in the world. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart! When that kid ran back the kickoff, I cracked up looking at all the faces. It was like… "Why did he do that, doesn't he know who we are?"

Bos, He really panned out didn’t he? But I would agree with the letter for the most part.

I am an OU fan but I also root for OSU (except when they play OU). What the NCAA is doing to Dez Bryant is par for the course I think.Let's see, he lied about something that was not illegal to do so they threw the book at him. To me it seems that the rules apply to those schools that are not USC. I guess the NCAA is still investigating USC because nothing has been done to them yet. If they treated every school the same way, you could almost buy off on the Dez Bryant thing but since they don't, it just proves to me that there is a huge double standard at work here. The NCAA needs to be disbanded as they are no longer an objective body!!

Isn't it a shame when we hold someone accountable for violating the rules? (sarcasm)
