Defending state champion

Star Spencer (25-5) dethroned three-time defending champion OKC McGuinness in the state final last year. Coach Patrick Cudjoe's Bobcats will be led by state tournament most valuable player, 5-9 senior guard Kendre Talley. Star Spencer returns three part-time starters — Darrius Bryson, Deontae Thomas and John Cooksey.

Top area contenders

McLain (19-9) has a new head coach as former University of Tulsa player Cordell Love succeeds John Phillips. The Titans, who play primarily 5A teams, return four starters — Devin Boyd, Rondale Boyd, Gerald Long and Kerry Burks.

Metro Christian (20-8) will strive for its third consecutive state tournament appearance as it moves up to 4A. Coach Andrew Baker's three returning starters are Danny Brown, Alex Stanley and Sammy Edison.

Vinita (22-6) fell one win short of the state tournament last March as Tony Roach's first season as coach ended with a 78-67 loss to state champion Star Spencer. Jake Bullard, a 6-5 sophomore who averages 15 points per game, is joined by two other returning starters — Cory Hext and Bryce Ebbs.
