Letter to the Editor: Who's paying?
By Virgil Hensley, Tulsa - 11/2/2009
In addition to extravagant vacations and designer clothing, there are a few other perks our new First Lady enjoys.
To wit: a chief of staff, two special assistants, a deputy chief of staff, a director and press secretary, a director of scheduling, a deputy directory of policy and projects, two deputy director and deputy social secretaries, a deputy director of scheduling and events coordinator, a deputy director of advance and trip director, a special assistant and personal aide, an associate director and deputy press secretary, a special assistant for scheduling and traveling aide, an associate director of correspondence, an executive assistant to the chief of staff, a staff assistant to the social secretary and a deputy associate director of correspondence.
Wonder who pays for all this help?

Virgil Hensley, Laura Bush's staff of 17 was funded by the Taxpayers at an annual cost of 1.28 Million. The Taxpayers provided the funds for Michelle Obama's staff of 22 at an annual cost of 1.47 Million. Quality always costs a little more than mediocrity.

Ha ha, Hensley, did you just wake up last November. What about Nancy Reagan and her battalion of astronomers?

At least it wasn't another Kathy Taylor letter.

Virgil - strange name for a girl. We won't even try to classify your envy. Just cough up your two cents for her entourage!
wardog, Miami (11/2/2009 7:37:36 AM)
Is this all you can gripe about today? Your digging a little deep for a lame story don't ya think? So how long did you have to wonder who pays for it, a day, a minute, or did you know before you even wrote the title. Do you think you'll get any intellegent letters from this one???? Gee, I wonder who has paid for ALL of the first ladies things?
dustyoutlaw, Tulsa (11/2/2009 7:46:14 AM)
Laura Bush didn't need as much of a staff because she spent a good amount of time in the kitchen drinking the cooking sherry. Nancy Reagen didn't need as much of a staff because she had an astrologer doing the heavy lifting.

We paid more for Reagan's wife and the new Mrs. Bush 41 said she wasn't going to cost us that much. We sure would have paid more for McCain's wife Cindy, she would have beat Reagan's wife but the costs have sky rocketed since those times anyway. We have always paid for the President and First Ladys and nothing has changed here. Plus we pay for all of the congress to get the best health care that most don't have access to.

Matter of fact this First Lady shops down at Talbots where many people shop inlucding myself and not Saks or Nieman Marcus. I think she does have new designers who charge much less for special occasions. But who cares we have always paid the bills for the First Family. They paid out of their own pocket for their vacation in New York though I heard.

The left complains about the hate from the right quite often on TW thread, but don't see from themselves. The hateful remarks about the past First Ladies wasn't called for. Virgil, The First Lady has always had a staff and always will. They have a roll to play after their husbands get elected. If your going nit-pick the current First Lady you should have at least provided a run down on the others.
Hijinx, (11/2/2009 8:07:24 AM)
Now I have seen some nit-picking letters on here before but I think you just lowered the bar even further there Virgil. You forgot to mention that the witch doctor is free however. Moron.

First lady has to look like a lady. Sometimes it takes money. . Sarah Palin got raked over the coals for her clothes. . The news media never said a word about the White House picking out the clothes for Sotomayer while she was making the rounds for her appointment to the supreme court. . It's all politics. At our expense. Will always be that way. Once elected there is a blank check, one of the perks. We make the deposits, they spend the money.

Who is going to pay to put a sock in her mouth?
Oldfatdude, Shàngdu (11/2/2009 10:48:33 AM)

I suppose that this President should close the White House and run the country from a trailer park and his wife should shop at the Salvation Army or Goodwill for the duds they will wear when they treat Kings and Queens and foreign dignitaries to a happy meal at McDonalds. Can this hatred of the President get any more absurd?
sr71v3, (11/2/2009 11:15:54 AM)
CIO - "Can this hatred of the President get any more absurd? " Interesting ... I read thru all the comments and the closest thing I find to "hate" is a false accusation against Laura Bush.
paprika, teahas (11/2/2009 11:24:28 AM)
We are...Pretty soon we will all be paying more to pay to help this President's vote buying programs.
IrishQuaker, Tulsa (11/2/2009 12:05:16 PM)
Virgil, I am tempted simply to post: HO HUM. But, since you hovered over every tiny detail, I must post: M E-E-E-E-E O W ! ! ! ! I wonder who did you research since you neglected every other First Lady.
Grand Old Partier, Owasso (11/2/2009 12:10:58 PM)
CIO- are you still making $100K a year driving a cab?
Loophole, (11/2/2009 12:21:21 PM)
Since when do we equate the station and duties of our mayor with that of the First Lady of the United States. Get real. . .
calloy, T-town (11/2/2009 1:19:25 PM)
i guess you think michelle should stay in her room for 8 years, huh virg? try and get a clue, mkay?
true2form, Grand Lake (11/2/2009 1:50:19 PM)
Virgil If this is the only rage against the machine you have to muster you are indeed a lucky man.
lizzy, Tulsa (11/2/2009 2:11:14 PM)
Typical conservative hypocrisy. Michelle's expenses are extravagant, but Laura Bush's were just fine. Obama's appointing of czars are a bid to turn the country socialist, but Dubya's similar quantity of czars were just fine. Etc., etc.
SS_Hippy, Tulsa (11/2/2009 2:23:09 PM)
Was this a letter to the editor or listing the cast of Entourage?
