Good one Bruce. The punishment does not fit the crime. Lying to the NCAA is wrong and there should be penalty, but suspension for the entire year is too harsh.

Got this one wrong, Bruce. Dez is guilty of being 1) too dumb to know that he was being wooed by Dieon Sanders who was acting as a pimp for his agent and 2) was too dumb to know that lying about it is always worse than the actual infraction.

I raise a 16 year old and I'm proud to be old fashioned. I don't allow that gangsta rap stuff in my house. But i do allow some rap music. If it's got rhythm, and it presents some musical qualities it's OK. And whose to judge you ask? Me! this is my castle and I choose my own court jesters, and minstrels.

Smells like a witch hunt to me.

People have always lied ... but much of our societal problems today are because we have lost touch with the concept of absolute values. Our schools have been taken over by the tight panties crowd and it is impossible to reinforce core values in our children through education. And, of course, many of today's parents are the product of that same confused thinking.

Yes, it's wrong to lie and I truly would like to meet someone who absolutely never told a lie. Especially as a teenager or early 20-something. It sounds to me like the NCAA has more power than a regular court. Did they warn him that he could have representation? Did they tell the coaches they would be questioning him? Dez made a mistake. He paid for that mistake not only by missing a game but by becoming a headline news story. Come on, NCAA, move on to your next victim.

The best way to read TW articles online is to go straight down to the bottom of the reader comments and try to figure out what the original article was about. It's good fun for all.

aint missbehavin, no thanks (10/15/2009 12:31:11 AM)
Have ya ever was just relaxed and someone knock on your door and ya look out and its the Jahovah Witness's(please dont take offense Jahovah Witness's but ya know). That happens to me.Once I opened the door to walk out and there they was.Just a standing there.Knowing its the same folks that had been up to my house and seen me peeking through the mini-blinds,I was caught by the good folks who dont celebrate Christmas.(No offense Jahovah Folks, but ya know)...the moral of this story which really has nothin to do with this is,I was caught off guard and when they asked me if they could talk to me,I said I was just leaving.I lied,it was the pressure,duress....I was just walkin out to look at the world but here they was wanting to talk to me and oooo I feel bad now.Hated to have to make such a big deal out of this!

He's already sat out 2 games. Perhaps What and 2Curious would be satisfied if he actually drowned.

Joyce, I believe that was another Dez mistake. He should have worked through the OSU compliance officer with the NCAA and not acted alone. Too late now.

Dusty, so running a record store provides you with the expert experience to know the thought process behind someone you have never met? Which character in the cartoon are you, the one on the right or the one on the left?

TK1, (10/14/2009 1:09:23 PM)
Dusty, By definition: Stereotyping is a simplified and standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group. Understanding is knowledge of or familiarity with a particular thing. So if you had direct personal knowledge of Dez and his thought process then you would be capable of understanding. If you are generalizing based on a group you are simply stereotyping, no matter how many CD's you have sold.

TK1, (10/14/2009 1:44:18 PM)
Royce, you better do a little more SMU homework. The program was caught in multiple offenses across multiple years. It wasn't one car lot deal.

TK1, (10/14/2009 2:23:42 PM)
No hate here Dusty, I just reject your logic. You don't know the inside of anyone's head, especially mine if you think I have any leanings toward rap music. Oh, and the music store reference was made by you in one of your earlier posts.

TK1, (10/14/2009 3:15:49 PM)
Sorry Dusty, I forgot that selling flutes and violins gives people the power to read minds. My bad.

apparantly Dez is not much of a liar either Thunder. After running a recording studio and music store for several decades I came to understand that most these kids are poor liars but they don't realize that because they're simply mimicing the behavior they are taught by thug rappers. It's one thing to stand in a recording booth and tell whoppers when the only people hearing it are the recording engineer who has a vested interest in keeping a straight face and the rappers buddies. It's quite another to tell lies to someone who is not in the thug rap culture. The whoppers they tell are so outrageous and puncuated with "fer real", "U feelin' me", "that's how I roll" and numerous other cliche phrases that scream outloud 'I'M LYING'. And they don't have a clue.

dustyoutlaw, Tulsa (10/14/2009 10:27:53 AM)
It's not a stereotype and it's not restricted to black kids NN. It's a whole generation of kids raised on thug rap and it permeates our entire society. Dez Bryant and 80% of our kids today was raised on this garbage culture and they have to have been influenced in a cradle to adulthood barrage of being told that it's OK to lie and deceive. No, not OK, but cool.

dustyoutlaw, Tulsa (10/14/2009 10:30:22 AM)
And if you think only black kids do it you need to get out more often. I worked with kids for over 30 years and I know what I'm talking about. It's white, black, brown, asian. It simply is EVERYWHERE after two decades of the thug/gangsta rap culture. Even nice kids do it. OF ALL RACES.

dustyoutlaw, Tulsa (10/14/2009 10:43:51 AM)
I think what NN misses here is my point. Because these kids are the product of a thug rap culture that says lying is just a means to an end, in all liklihood Dez Bryant simply lied because it was the easiest thing to his mind to do. But that doesn't mean that he did anything wrong other than lying. As the World says, IF lying was his only "crime" in this situation, then a two game suspension is more than adequate and he should be reinstated. If there is more then the NCAA should say so. What the NCAA should be doing is banning Deon Sanders from contact with NCAA athletes for five years and see if HE, the adult here, gets his act together.

dustyoutlaw, Tulsa (10/14/2009 11:27:09 AM)
And you know Dez personally do you TK1? Or are you just a Cowboy fan desperate to win at any cost? How about letting the system decide. I stated my opinion as did the TW on their editorial, that if he "just" lied then two games is enough. If there is more the NCAA needs to say so. What is there about that that incences you so? I suspect you're a fan that really doesn't care if he lied or if there is more. I care more about teaching kids not to lie and the small matter of integrity and the reason I care is that 999 out of a thousand football players will never get that big contract. Those kids need to have some social graces. I really don't care about the ones that go to the pro's and make big money. Dez Bryant will get his fat contract one way or the other. So did Reggie Bush, so did LeBron James and on and on. But most won't and those kids need to know that there are rules that you have to abide by in life.
