Exactly, I find it hard to belive the recession is over when unemployment continues to rise.

Mmm. Fried SPAM is good. Weirdest use of SPAM I've seen is SPAM sushi at an ABC Store in Oahu. Apparently SPAM's a bid deal in Hawaii (the Army stockpiled it in mountain vaults during WWII!)

Our dear leader won't be happy with you Bruce.

No matter how many times they say it on TV, the recession is not over and won't be for a long time. So what happened to all the jobs from the stimulus money? It went for paybacks instead.

You got it Loophole. When he promised change, I don't think everyone realized he meant change as in pennies, that's all you'll be left with at this rate.

It has to do with the technical definition of "recession." A recession is two consecutive quarters in which the gross domestic product declines. The GDP went up last quarter, so the recession is technically over, even though unemployment is still sky high. During the economic "boom" times of the '80s and '90s, unemployment was still fairly high, especially in the '80s. Wages were flat and declined against the cost of living. A great many people did not share in the bounty. The gap between rich and poor (and the middle class, for that matter) greatly increased. Who wrote about the problem? That well-known ultra liberal, Kevin Phillips.

Unemployment is not the only indicator on our economy and does not necessarily define a recession by itself. Plus, unemployment is not the first to go down and signal a better economy. Companies typically cut back on workforce hours and thus those affected do not qualify for unemployment. Those numbers of companies adding back their hours are increasing. To look at unemployment only is like looking at one score on a football game and declaring the one score you see as the winner.

If they can afford Spam, then they are doing just fine.

They could whip out the Access card and lets see there are possibly 3 family members unless the lady behind them is an aunt who lives with the family and takes care of freckles or scooter. You guys are going to love this. I just went to SNAP website and entered Mike, Sally, Scooter, and Aunt Alice. It took me 10 minutes and these 4 people are going to get $529 per month on Access Oklahoma debit card for grocery purchases. (google USDA SNAP) try it for your situation, you may just get some $$. I know a family who pooled their funds, bought 3 refrigerators, put them in the garage, and have 8 members at home. They get more than $1500 per month on their Access cards and have to give away foods each month. I saw them at Buy-4-Less and they had 4 baskets full of foods with one basket level full of meats. They throw these bbq parties and just about all the members of this family have full time jobs in the $20 to 30 K /year range.

Times is tough.

Yeah, the recession is over. Make every effort to keep your job, but if you are unemployed, good luck finding one. And with the socialistic Obama administration in power, look for those handouts! If you haven't yet, start building and investing now! Everything is dirt cheap. Especially spam. Me, I'm going for the gold. And sushi.

That sign and badmouthing the POTUS who was voted into this recession will get you absolutely nothing.

Daven, Tulsa (10/7/2009 9:34:09 AM)
Lets not forget how long it took for them to declare we were in an actual recession too. ha ha ha

There are jobs out there. We're just too good to sweep the floors or flip a burger. Times they are tough right now.. but as the old saying goes, "History repeats itself". I guess we're going full circle.

beau3985, Tulsa (10/7/2009 10:00:03 AM)
Its not as tough as the media are making it out to be. The recession peaked months ago and we are now on our way to a full recovery (no thanks to the stimulus, I might add). If there is anything that this past recession can teach us its to make sure to get a good education. I graduated college in late 2008, right as the recession was hitting the hardest and I still managed to find a good job with good benefits. If you're willing to apply yourself, work hard, and get an education beyond high school, that education will work hard for you for the rest of your life.

Droopy, Who gives a hoot if "The One" is unhappy. The majority of Americans are very unhappy with him.

Royce, Tulsa (10/7/2009 11:27:31 AM)
Yep, Bush's recession is over. With 10% unemployed we are now in Obama's depression. Do any of you Obama stooges remember him telling us that his Stimulus Package would hold unemployment to 8%? I'm sure you don't.

Cooldaddy, Broken Arrow (10/7/2009 11:46:58 AM)
Aren't they shopping at Dollar General?

A funny story.... About one-third of the Stimulus money has been spent. The rest of it has been held-up, uh, I mean 'rejected' by Republicans who say it is not needed. Now two Republican Senators from the state to the south of us are saying that NASA, which is just south of Houston in Clear Lake, needs an additional $3,000,000,000 and instead of trying to work it into the Federal budget, or look for it somewhere else, are saying how about using some of that good 'ol Stimulus money that we both voted against? I think this is the same Stimulus money both of them said they were against, voted against, said they would never take, said would destroy the country, blah, blah, blah..... I guess they saw the Gov of LA. saying the same things and then taking the money and passing out big checks with his name on it and thought, "Hey, I'm at least as big a fraud as he is." Well, I say this is an outrage! Our two Senators are as worthless as anybodys and they should be out there demanding Stimulus money for Oklahoma just like other Republican Senators are for their states! So to our two Senators I say: SINK LOWER! There must be at least $600,000,000,000 in Stimulus money left out there. Don't ask for it; demand it! I am sure the State of Oklahoma could find something to spend it on, and since the other states don't seem to be asking for it I am sure they will not mind. Isn't that what we elected you for?

Faith, (10/7/2009 1:07:54 PM)
Obama didn't cause this depression, he inherited this mess and has only been in office for nine months. Give me a break. These jobs will never come back they have been gone for a long time now and Oklahoma is just feeling the pain while other states are now slowly recovering. Our corporations here in America cannot compete with other countries anymore and move overseas and downsize for tax breaks.

Worried about the system, Tulsa (10/7/2009 1:17:13 PM)
It is a basic economic fact that employment numbers lag behind GDP, and is usually the slowest indicator to lower after a recession. And how exactly do you figure the stimulus isn't working? Because you didn't see the result the day after it passed? Things take time - just because we live in an instant-gratification culture doesn't mean everything happens instantaneously.

GeneTulsa, Aubrey (10/7/2009 1:41:11 PM)
Thank you Democrats and Obama, for the high unemployment, I lost my Job today, to all who voted for Obama, thank you for my job loss........

Daven, Tulsa (10/7/2009 2:00:19 PM)
Educate yourself Gene. Sorry to hear about your job. But blaming a party is not going to get you back to work any sooner. Before you jump on me. I lost my job in September. Was offered a job exactly one week later. A better job then I had before. Now, I am skilled in a certain industry and so that helped and I am so very grateful for it.

psychedelikrelik, Tulsa (10/7/2009 2:36:40 PM)
Sorry about your job, Gene. Hope you get another one tomorrow. Worried, yes it is. Basic fact.
