Reading the headline, I thought this was about our trash hauling system. Dewey Bartlett was on KRMG with Joe Kelly this morning. Bartlett sounded like a dufus. Then Tom Adelson called in because he didn't like what Bartlett said about him. Adelson sounded rather whiney. If these two candidates keep it up, I might end up voting for Mark Perkins, the Independent.

Many people criticize negative political campaigning as being offensive. However much people claim to be offended by negative campaign tactics, the facts are such campaigning works. No candidate is going to spend time and money in a negative campaign mode unless that candidate was sure that his tactics will garner him more votes than they will lose him. Candidates trash talking their opponents is as old as the Republic itself. You should read of the 1800 presidential election between Adams and Jefferson. Contemporary politicians are amateurs compared with those in the past. Ever heard of "Blaine, Blaine, James G. Blaine; the continental liar from the state of Maine? The contemporary version of that would be "Obama, Obama, Barack H. Obama; the continental liar from the state of Hawaii (Indonesia???). It's not as euphonic as the Blaine chant, but it means the same thing.

I haven't seen Adelson go negative on television yet. Bartlett threw the first stone so it's probably only a matter of time. Adelson's got my vote.
