Melting Pot

Things are popping this fall at the Melting Pot on the RiverWalk Crossing in Jenks.

Its annual fall wine dinner is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Wines from Villa San-Juliette winery, owned by Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick, producers of "American Idol," in Paso Robles, Calif., will be paired with fondue dishes such as Wisconsin cheese trio, an entree of cedar plank salmon, spicy filet, peppered duck, orange fennel pork and porcini and portobello sacchettis; and a blueberry dark chocolate dessert with fresh fruit.

Wines will include sauvignon blanc, a red blend called Chorum and a petite syrah. Cost is $44, plus tax and gratuity.

Also, for a limited time, the Melting Pot will offer a four-course menu featuring Alpine-themed dishes such as Alp and Dell cheese fondue, applewood-smoked bratwurst, Hefeweizen-marinated shrimp, sauerbraten New York strip and white chocolate apple cobbler.

The Alpine dinner, which will be offered through mid-March, is $81 to $96 per couple, depending on entree choices.

Reservations for the fall wine dinner: 299-8000.

T.G.I. Friday's

For a limited time, T.G.I. Friday's restaurants, 5359 E. 41st St. and 8221 E. 61st St., will offer Jack Daniel's burgers and Jack Daniel's chicken sandwiches for $5 each. It also is offering $5 off all Jack Daniel's grill entrees.

The burger is basted with a Jack Daniel's glaze and includes two strips of bacon and smoky provolone cheese on a toasted bun. The chicken sandwich features grilled chicken basted in a Jack Daniel's glaze and topped with bacon, mixed cheeses, Cajun onion straws, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and Jack Daniel's mayo on a bun.

Yokozuna

Yokozuna is the name of the new restaurant being developed by Elliot Nelson at Second Street and Detroit Avenue.

Nelson has found a company that custom prints inserts for fortune cookies, but says he has no time to do it himself.

So, if you have a saying appropriate for a fortune cookie, send it to muriel@mcnellies.com and type "Yokozuna Fortune Cookie" in the subject line. Writers of the winning inserts will receive a $50 gift certificate to Yokozuna.

"We're hoping for some wit, wisdom and irony, but we don't want anything that you'd be too embarrassed to read to your grandmother," Nelson wrote in an e-mail.

Green Onion

The Green Onion ended a 23-year run at 4532 E. 51st St. when it closed Sept. 11. The upscale restaurant was known for its longtime employees, classy setting, quality food, Sunday brunches and pianist Bob Clear at the piano.

Rib Crib

Rib Crib BBQ & Grill restaurants are running a "Two Meat All You Can Eat" promotion through Oct. 31.

Customers may order never-ending quantities of two smoked meats, such as chopped brisket and smoked sausage, plus two side dishes for $10.99. Kids also can take advantage of a special featuring items such as macaroni-and-cheese or a grilled cheese sandwich plus dessert and drink for 99 cents.

French Hen

Chef-proprietor Richard Clark has scheduled an Aquitaine (French wine region including Bordeaux) dinner with guest speaker Laura Mancini at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the French Hen, 7143 S. Yale Ave.

The menu will include hors d'oeuvres, poached Carolina fluke, grilled breast of duck, Kobe beef short ribs, French cheeses and chocolate eclair with pumpkin cream filling. Wines will be from Chateau La Freynelle, Black Beret, Chateau Virecourt Pillebourse, Chateau Fonbadet, Chateau Doyac and Cheateau Coutet.

Cost is $99 per person. Reservations: 492-2596.

Green Onion was at it's best when original owner D. I. had it.
